Michaela Ternasky-Holland is an award-winning XR/metaverse creator consultant & speaker who specializes in non-fiction & social impact stories. As her name became well-known in the industry, it was time for her to upgrade her website. A website that reflects her expertise and communicates her projects and achievement.
Before we get to the web design, we take time to define the creative direction. Based on the questionnaire and our kick-off call, assessing what Michaela was drawn into, what makes her - her. It is personal branding, so we (Michaela, the client, and I, the designer) go through this thought process to listen, evaluate, and define her aesthetic. This approach is different than designing for consumer goods, where the customer persona plays a big part in design decisions.
THE LOGO
MTH as an icon and recreate Michaela's hand-written by her as the text logo. Make it extra personal and unique.
THE WEBSITE
Michaela's old site shows her projects and achievements but is unorganized and hard to digest: too much information, text, and links. Here is how the UI/UX principle comes in handy. First: people digest information in groups. Second: people scan and do not read (at least on the main page). That is how we started. We group projects as pages based on her capacity as creator, consultant, and speaker/moderator. And set up the flow so visitors won't have to leave the pages when they read the project information; by using a quick pop-up.
Her projects have won many prestigious awards and featured in well-known press such as Forbes and the People. However, on the original site, this information was lost in the sea of content. We created a dedicated page that made these achievements stand out and also includes these achievements in a section of the pages related to the creator/consultant role.
